Documentary: "Bronx Princess"
Score by:..
BLITZ The Ambassador
This documentary premiered on PBS Sept, 22. It's
being shown through Oct 23. I just saw it last week
and was blown away by the writing, acting and direction.
Any1 that's ever been a rebel with a cause will digg it!
You can view it free @ PBS.org
The film Bronx Princess was shot in the "Little Ghana" part of the Bronx and spotlights a Bronx-bred teenager, Rocky Otoo,
who leaves her mother in New York City to reunite with her
father, a chief in her native Ghana. (Trailer Below)
The film has an original soundtrack,
blasted with West African ‘high-life’, composed
by one of my favorite artist Blitz the Ambassador,
a emcee with cray-zee insane verbage, many may not
know he is also a composer that was born in Ghana
because he reps New York hawrd, but HipHop HAWRDER!
The score is performed by The Embassy Ensemble.
URBAN FILM FEST | Trailer"Say MY Name"
Starring Chocolate Thai, Jean Grea &.."Miz Korona"
A couple weeks ago I went 2 The Chicago Black
Film Festival, it ran 4 a month and I made
the best of it, going 4 three weekends str8.,
..must've seen 30 movies.
If only I were in NYC, right now. (^%$#@!)...
The Urban Film Festival kix off 2day.
Tyler Perry & Oprah's "PRECIOUS"
will be in the building . Last Winter on IATBS.com
I dropped the 1st interviews of Chris Rock while
"Good Hair" was still in the 1st phases of
creation, well it will get a peak at
stardom with it's 1st premeire,
Jamie Foxx's new movie "Law Abiding Citizen" & " Big Black Good Man", Adapted from
Richard Wright's short story,
BIG BLACK GOOD MAN will all be featured.
.and the most anticipated documentary
(drumroll please)
..well it seems 2 be the heartfelt."Say My Name"
Also featured are, Jean Grae and one of my own
Detroit favorite spittaz,Miz Korona
..You probably know her from the Movie 8mile when
she battled Xhibit in the scene @ the food lunch
truck..where Eminem steps in..but, she's paid more
dues than ur favorite rappers, favorite mixtape artist,
seriously.
Prolly 9 years ago while living in DETROIT,
I was just becoming familiar with Miz Korona when
was juggle'n the world.. doing personal wardrobe 4
Saks 5th Ave during the day..and hustling the culture
@ nite. aka playing the role of A&R 4 a label that had
just relocated from Cali 2 Detroit.
1ST- In the summer in the "D".. it's like candyland,
..but winter in Motown is dark and the city hides in
almost a hibernating like type of solitude, so when
you get a chance 2 build with some1 of like mind
..you do and you appreciate it.
I'd just met Lacks and we were almost hang'n on a daily..
we'd deceided 2 play in the brutal winds of the Hawk.
It was the weekend of the Hamtramack Blow Out,
A Winter Festival, that i'd seen Korona deliver
1 of the livest Hip-Hop performances i'd ever seen
showcased, Male or Female.
Other than Lyte, i'd really never seen a female
spit 16 so smoove that the mic and erry1 watch'n
knew , @ that very moment..the EMCEE owned the crowd.
That same night the brown skinned female sporting
a tiny cropped afro, and a throwback jersey along
with 2 other aquaintances 1 colleague, another an
artist, sat in my whip discussing how they wanted
2 style her, they'd just started a personal
wardrobe service and it seemed as though she'd be
one of their 1st clients.
I can remember her saying
"I AIN'T GOING 4 NONE OF THAT HOE SHIT DOE",
...haha, CLASSIC! I felt that tho'.
After that I starting noticing she was making more
appearances than DPD, we'd run n2 each other @ other
venues, Alvins, Lush Lounge..blah-zay-splee,
..the girl has raw verbage and helluva stage presence.
A few months l8er while w8'n 4 Dez from Slum Village
2 shut down the clubs turntables @ a HipHop showcase
so we could hit Greektown,
Miz Korona was again rocking the mic, and was doper
than every dude that had hit the stage that night.
When she left the stage she came over n sat and kicked
it 4 like an hour about music and blah, blah, blah,
she and I were the only females in the joint.
Talanted and real is a good combination, yaw know so
many sistas just intentionally go outta their way 2
display pure hate toward the next sista ..
4 no apparent reason. SMDH.
I'm happy 2 see these sistas get sum shine!!
SHOUTZ @ My sista..Miz Korona,
Keep.. keeping it Phunky!!
CONGRATULATIONS, it's well deserved!!

"SPARE Change PAINT"
If I could make a LAW..
HOMELESSNESS slash STARVATION would be banned around the WORLD.
- I know whats its like 2 have a luxury crib on a
harbored marina with Jalen Rose & Chris Weber as neighbors.
- I also know what it is 2 live on the flipside of that
no job..no $$, no car, no home..it's not anything pretty
AMERICA has become a "throw-away society"
..."we throw away our citizens when they
are too OLD or too POOR"If this country adapted a few Eastern practices
our self worth would be valued on moral standards,
and balancing our INNER beauty with outter while
creating a certain type of peace that was transferrable
2 those surrounding us.
but ITS NOT..instead we tend 2 value those with,
titles made from social and economical status,
luxury whips, designer everythang and outter beauty.Watching this made me realize there is so much
neglected beauty in my everyday life..
still I'm seaching 4 it;s reflection on a daily

This is a documentary called "Black Women Walking" by Tracey Rose
**Don't Allow Anyone To Talk You Out Of Your Right To Freedom Of Movement! This has NOTHING to do with men who approach women like men...Two different subjects...As Tracey Rose quite accurately describes in the beginning...****Many Black women (including myself) have faced the daily anxiety of walking past enclaves of damaged men getting harrassed... Know that youre not alone... Do not let dissenters minimize the situation or say that Black women are blowing things out of proportion... Be on the lookout for predator protectionism... Do not fall for the video vixen/promiscuous woman red-herring argument as a subtle way to excuse this behavior, keeping the status-quo... I have heard so many of these nonsense prevailing attitudes i.e.,
"Why can't Black women at least say HI when being approached?" I don't care if the woman is the most stuck-up creature on the face of the earth...She is NOT OBLIGATED TO SPEAK TO YOU...Ladies, you DO NOT have any obligation to talk to a stranger...Remember A STRANGER!!!
Everyone should know that harassment is a crime and NO ONE has to tolerate it... Young Black girls coming up DO NOT have to live this way! What can you do? Stop excusing, ignoring and enabling these predators. Keep in contact with the police and other officials...Give the police whereabouts, timeframes and content of these occurences...They will usually do extra patrols...Eventually these types will be ran off by law enforcement....You are NOT a "snitch" for reporting and discouraging crime...You are NOT a "troublemaker" for wanting a safe environment for yourself, the elderly, children and everyone else in the neighborhood...And most of all, you are NOT hating anyone for pointing out and discussing a problem within certain communities...If enough of us display the extra effort, then something will get done...Be vigilant and there is power in numbers...
Chris Rock has made a documentary about “Good Hair”.
One of his daughters asked him “Daddy,
"how come I don’t have ‘good’
[meaning Caucasian] hair?”
So he made a trip all around North America to document
what black girls and women go through for their hair.
The movie is debuted @ Sundance Movie Fest.
Finally..World Star releases some Greatness,
I've been w8'n on this 2 actually drop 4 like 5 months now
Well, here it is...the documentary "TYSON"

Last week ..I was called a terrorist..after 911,
I'd actually gotten use 2 the phone calls and hate mail.
If they were speaking on me as far as having a disciplined mind,
they could have been correct..I can understand the ignorantly simple
minded pheeling inferior towards a sista...
I also understand you can even learn from a true fool...
..so I am nothing today , which will quickly become yesterday.. .
.If I do not evolve by 2morrow
..I needed 2 make a travel reservation..Gil the dude that made my reservation told me that he studied language..as he broke my whole name down by definition and root..It was shocking 2 me because..he knew what he was talking about.
We quickly spoke of both our families culture and travels 2 America
..as well as the sterotypical notions obtained by so many...
I ended up wanting 2 speak with him more or even perhaps again..
though there was no tyme..and he apologized 4 being non-perfessional,
I thanked him 4 the mental molestation....and we were both ghost.
When I retrieved my email..he spoke of this project,
telling me his boy was a dj slash lunatic
.with some other touching words...that don't matter as much as me passing this on !!
I am @ peace with the fact that ... I've finally found it...

PPS: DJ Brains remixed some Sudanese street vendor music for us to use in this VBS
News piece, and we liked it so much that we thought we'd offer it here for you to have too. So here it is.
Brains is from St. Louis. He was part of the whole
8-bit/Gameboy music scene until he got married, moved to London, and fell in love with grime.
He also used to DJ under the name Spin Laden and was once forcibly removed from the DMC mix championships in Chicago when he took to the stage in a Bin Laden outfit.

-PICTURES LIE-"Lemme Put You On Game"
Jesse Jackson and the late Detroit Mayor, Coleman Young are all smiles in this photo, taken at the Book-Cadillac Hotel the night Young was first elected Detroit’s mayor in 1973. But inside, the mayor-elect was seething. He had wanted Jackson, then a youthful 32, to come to Detroit to lead a voter-registration drive. But the younger man demanded $50,000, to which an indignant Coleman spat, “I didn’t have $50,000 for Jesse Jackson.” Later, when Jackson ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988, Young got even by endorsing a rival, and at one point proclaimed, “Jesse never ran nothing but his mouth.” In a classic understatement, Mayor Young noted in his autobiography that, “It was well known that Jesse and I were not bosom buddies.”
